One of our family’s favorite festivals kicks off today: Germanfest
…..! Being a family with deep German roots, we go to get our “fix” of German food, drink, dance and music! In years gone by, our kids danced with the kids from Milwaukee German Immersion School, and sang with the German American Kinderchor.
Thursday, the Germanfest Fun Run/Walk will benefit the St. Ben’s Meal program with Usingers donating 3 pounds of meat for every runner/walker participating…Come on down and join me…you get into the Fest for free afterward!
When it comes to food, you can find many German specialties from 4 different types of brats, schnitzel, dumplings, spaetzle (homemade noodles), roasted chicken, rollbraten, sauerbraten, and THE MOST POPULAR….Spanferkel. Roasted suckling pigs make for a great dinner, and always catch the kids attention while roasting on a spit over red hot coals. Go early, as this speciality often is a sell out.
Once you finish dinner, stroll over to the Konditorei. This tent is for those with a sweet tooth…many tortes such as Bienenstichkuchen and Black Forest Torte, strudels and cakes are available.
The beer tents are busy, and you can find root beer for the non drinkers…or try something new like Jaegermeister and root beer…Yummmm if you lean toward sweet drinks…even a champagne bar can be found on the grounds.
A Trachtenschau is a fashion show of native dress from different regions. A parade on Saturday mid day is fun for young and old. The funniest event of the weekend is the Dachshund races, and the Dachshund costume contest! Another long time favorite is the live Glockenspiel.
If you are looking for history, visit the Cultural Tents, loaded with displays and travel information. There are many new attractions this year, including a evening airshow with pyrotechnics.
My best advice, go mid day and get a table under a tent. Enjoy the music and dancing. Have a meal and some beverage and work it off on the dance floor. That is where you will find me and my family on Saturday nite! My grandkids will be dancing, Abby twirling in her Dirndl, and you might even see me doing a schuhplatter!
On Sunday, you can find me at my open house in Germantown. Germantown was rated by Milwaukee Magazine as one of the top l00 cities to live, in a past survey. If you are looking for a home in a top rated community, call Pat Tasker at 262-437-5853!

If you are sleeping in this Saturday, you will be missing out on some fun at South Shore Park
in Milwaukee’s Bay View Neighborhood. There is something for everyone here on Milwaukee’s Lakefront.
A Farmer’s Market offers everything from farm fresh produce and flowers, crepes made to order, fresh hot coffee, spices, hot popping kettlecorn, and even some organic and gluten free products!
At 9:30 a.m. you can meet at the Pavillion for Yoga with Amy Friese from Fitness For EveryBODY. Last week it was so lovely having class right on the beach. The sand added an extra dimension, and the water added a calming effect, while being kissed by the sun! (A nominal fee of $l0 for yoga.)
Sometimes there is live music to sit and enjoy. If you are the more active type, bring your bike and ride along the path that goes all the way down along South Lake Drive to Grant Park. Or just take a stroll and enjoy the sights and sounds of a vibrant community: Bay View.
If you are looking for a vibrant community in which to buy a home, call Pat Tasker at 262-437-5853. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Pat knows the different neighborhoods and what they offer!

This weekend, July 18th & 19th, the Old Falls Village will host Civil War Weekend. Throughout the historic village, re enactors will portray the life of soldiers in this time period. The medical tent will find doctors mending patients, and displays of medical equipment of the day. The cook tent, the soldiers quarters, all teach history lessons to young and old.
Last year I saw Abraham Lincoln himself, walking the grounds visiting the soldiers, and making a speech to the crowds….
Be sure to cover your ears when they blast off the canons; it is sure to either amaze a youngster or frighten them to tears! A full slate of activities is planned for Saturday and Monday, including Battle re-enactments, Infantry Drills and a visit with Mr. Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. Stay late to enjoy campfires and stories.
If you are looking for a home with Historic background, call Pat Tasker at Shorewest Realtors. Pat recently sold one of the oldest homes in the area, and could help you find a gem too! Pat can be reached at 414-588-4907.

For the 42nd year in a row, the PGA tour is making a stop in Milwaukee this weekend,
July 16-19. The US BANK CHAMPIONSHIP taking place at Brown Deer Park’s gorgeous course, is one of very few stops on the tour, which takes place on a public course.
According to the official tournament site, the tournament in Milwaukee highlights include:
- 1968 – The first Greater Milwaukee Open is hosted in Milwaukee
- 1989 – Network television begins national broadcasts of the tournament
- 1991 – Corporate Village expands to make room for more fans
- 1994 – Hospitality tents are opened at the 18th hole
- 1996 – Tiger Woods’ PGA TOUR debut at the U.S. Bank Championship
- 2004 – U.S. Bank becomes the title sponsor
- 2007 – The U.S. Bank Championship becomes part of theFedExCup”
Over the years, this tournament has been played on several courses, including Blue Mound Golf & Country Club, Tripoli, Tuckaway, and now Brown Deer Park.
This could be the last though, unless a new sponsor steps up. The US Bank Championship is just one of the victims of tough economic times and criticism of how large companies spend money for marketing. Wisconsin home grown golfers like Gerry Kelly and Steve Stricker will appear. Even Mike Van Sickle, a Marquette standout who has received a sponsors’ exemption will be playing this weekend. Later this year, Mike plans to turn pro. Gerry Kelly is campaigning for someone to take over the sponsorship and keep Milwaukee on the tour calendar. The last few years, the Milwaukee stop coincides with the British Open, which naturally pulls the biggest of names on the Tour. That makes it harder to draw a crowd. With Stricker winning last weekend, and his second win this year, crowds may thicken in Milwaukee. We can do more than hope for a return next year, we can all get out there and enjoy some sun in the gallery over the next few days. Supporting the Open will show Milwaukee does care! A tournament stop like this puts millions of dollars towards local charities, that we can’t afford to lose.
If you love the game of golf, and always wanted to live on a golf course, call Pat Tasker for a list of homes that meet your needs. Tranquil settings on manicured fairways, makes for a very pleasant view from your deck. Pat can be reached at 414-588-4907.

A century ago, it wouldn’t be that unusual for a circus parade to come to town. Now it is practically unheard of, unless you live in Milwaukee! In days gone by the parade was made up of the same things you will see today, but the purpose was practical: getting the cast of characters and equipment into a town and set up for the big show! The show WAS the big attraction. Today, the parade is the spectacle, a feast for the eyes and ears of young and old.
Wisconsin is lucky to have a rare collection of antique hand carved circus wagons. Stored at the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, WI, these wagons are loaded on a train and brought to Milwaukee for the parade which takes place this Sunday, July 12th. According to the official website the parade this year will include: “50 authentic circus wagons, 350 exquisite horses, 30 musical bands and novelties, exotic animals, 150 clowns and over 450 riding and walking performers dressed in lavish circus wardrobe.”
As a child in the 60’s, I remember going downtown to view this parade with my family. A day or two before, we’d go down to the grounds and get a look at the wagons up close. My dad even painted some of those wagons onto our basement rec room walls for decor. The parade was a big deal. But it faded out in the 70’s due to costs, but in the mid to late 80’s, it was revived through local sponsorship, and I got to take my own kids. Again, money issues forced the canceling of the parade. It is back this year, and hopefully it won’t be the last….Just in case, you better get down there and take a look! The parade starts at l:30 pm, and winds its way through downtown Milwaukee.
If you are looking to buy or sell property this year, and don’t want the experience to turn into a circus, be sure to call Pat Tasker for help! As a life long resident of the Milwaukee area, she knows the area, and all it has to offer! Pat can be contacted at 262-427-5853.

Never under-estimate the power of perennials and annuals for your home’s landscaping! A new landscape plan with larger than average tree and bush specimens and lots of flower beds and flowers in pots will add tremendously to the curb appeal of your home. This is especially important if you are contemplating selling the house in the near future! A well-landscaped yard shows potential buyers
that the owner really cares for their home! Stop at my website at www.lisaroglow.shorewest.com

Who doesn’t love a parade? One of the biggest and best 4th of July parades in the area is the Wauwatosa one. Starting at 9 am at 104th & North, the parade only runs 2 miles east to 80th Street, but features over 100 participants! This year’s theme is Wauwatosa Salutes America.
Stop by Hart Park for games, animal rides, and live entertainment from 12:30-4:00. Free ice cream also, to all who participate in the decorated bikes, buggies, & wagons contest.
And what 4th of July would be complete without fireworks? Always also at Hart Park, scheduled to start at 9:15 pm this year. I hope you all have a wonderful, safe 4th of July. I also want to send out a huge THANK YOU to all the troops that keep America safe. We SO appreciate all you do for us!! God bless the USA!
